Can You Install a HDTV Antenna
Installing an antenna can be both confusing and dangerous, without the proper instructions. Several steps need to be reviewed before starting the installation of your antenna. Appropriate safety measures should be taken at all times. Attempting antenna installation during foul weather should be avoided, as it is one of the main safety risks.
The first step to antenna installation is setting the mount. The two most common options are a tripod mount and an eave mount. The choice comes down to if you want the antenna on your roof, or on the side of your house. Make sure the mast is appropriately low to the base, around five to ten feet, and away from power lines.
This is when you would attach the rotor, if you were going to have one. The rotor allows you to adjust the angle and or direction of the antenna via a remote, after the full setup is complete.
Once the rotor is mounted, the additional mast for antenna mounting should be as short as possible, generally 2 feet or less, to assure both stability of the antenna in high winds and to reduce the strain on the rotor thus extending its life. After the optional rotor, you will need to turn your focus to the actual antenna. You will need to adjust the initial angle of the antenna, so make sure the brackets are loose enough to allow for movement, but not so loose that they will not hold up the antenna. You will need to run a temporary line directly from you TV to the antenna to test the reception quality. Once you have verified that you are receiving clear reception, tighten the mounting brackets, and install the preamplifier.
Now that the antenna is fully stabilized, you will need to choose a more permanent path for the cable to run to the television. The place where the cable enters the house needs to be carefully chosen, as to reduce any damages or signal loss. Additionally, you will need to minimize the chances of the ice formation on the cable, as this can also cause signal loss. From there, just mount the cable and enjoy the show!
